If equitation or horse riding is something you must experience during your holidays in Croatia, then there is no better place to enjoy in the nature with these amazing animals than in Sinj. Sinj is a town in the continental part of the region of Dalmatia and is its center when it comes to horses, thanks to its long history of horse breeding and riding.
The region of Sinj is also known as „Cetinska krajina“ because of the river Cetina and its major influence on this part of Croatia. But the most popular and most famous thing about Sinj is the Tilters Tournament of Sinj – „Alka“. It takes place every year on the first Sunday in August to commemorate the victory over the Turkish army in 1715. The tilters, dressed in the traditional costumes, ride on horseback in full gallop, trying to thrust a ring (alka), hanging from a wire, with a lance. The tilter who scores the highest number of points (punat) is declared victor. Many tourists from Croatia and abroad visit the Tilters Tournament every year.
If you can't make it to Alka, contact us and we will help you feel at least some spirit of this heroic region by organizing horse riding in the fresh air of the intact nature of Sinj.
